Contemporary Border
By taking the minimalistic approach to planting, with a just a few well chosen specimens, an area, quite large, can be transformed into a low maintenance, tranquil place of beauty. This border uses just 6 mature specimens and three slate monoliths to cover an area of 60 square metres. With the 5 tonnes of 40mm plum slate(£600) and the 3 monoliths (£555), the whole package came in at under £2000. Of course all the plants can be specified at much smaller sizes to suit a smaller budget.

Traditional Cottage Border
Mainly perennials, this type of border is always a favourite for flower lovers. There can be a period in the winter when the border looks sad, but come spring it soon flares back into life. These 2 long borders are quite economical to achieve as perennials grow so fast they can be planted at a smaller size.

Evergreen Border
We have created an area of beauty that only changes subtly with the seasons. By using the bright foliage of the Pittospurnum and a few choice flowering evergreens, we have brightened up this shady corner as well as the promise of scent and flowers in spring. This is the most popular of all the themes, providing practically no maintenance and year round beauty.

Japanese Border / Oriental Theme
A Chinese/Japanese feel can be created quite easily with the right selection of tree and shrubs. We took this snap from the tee house at Biddulph Grange. It is nice to have your own tee house, but if not, you can still achieve the look and feel in any garden. |

Mixed family Border
A bit of everything with something for everyone. Can be done on a very affordable budget if finances are tight or achieved instantly with larger specimens. |
